POLITICAL APOLOGY
I’m fessing up,
Right here in public.
I’m not avoiding the hard questions.
So let’ be honest…
Mistakes were made.
It’s been hard for us all.
No one here is untouched,
But now is not a time to dwell on the past.
There’s no point in post-mortems.
We need to move forward.
So let’s just agree that…
Mistakes were made.
Hear me clearly.
It’s not good enough.
Things will change.
I will leave no stone unturned
(Because I hide my secrets far deeper than that).
But the point is,
That we’re gunna do better.
We need to do better.
We can all agree that…
Mistakes were made.
Please, no inquisition!
I’m not making admissions
that may hurt my ambitions.
I’m a wily tactician
avoiding suspicion
with measured contrition.
